Management Team

Arasor employs around 300 staff in four countries.

Both the management and engineering teams of Arasor are recognised as leaders in their fields and have a very successful track record in the development and growth of technology companies.

Dr Simon Cao - Executive Chairman
Dr. Cao holds more than 20 years experience in optics, communications and signal processing. Prior to co-founding Arasor, Dr. Cao was a founder and Board member of Avanex Corporation, a leading provider of optical component solutions. While at Avanex, Dr. Cao led the company from its early stages through its successful IPO on the NASDAQ exchange. Prior to Avanex, Dr. Cao was an executive at Oplink Communications. Prior Oplink Communications, Dr. Cao was an early employee at E-Tek Dynamics, which was acquired by JDS Uniphase.

In 1999, Forbes named Dr. Cao the “Godfather” of WDM technology. Dr. Cao is also credited with the invention and commercialization of fiber-optic products such as the fiber amplifier, WDM transmission and >10Gb/s high-speed optical transmission.

Dr. Cao holds Ph.D and M.S. degrees in both electrical engineering and physics from the University of Southern California. He also chairs the research committee on the board of USC’s engineering school and holds 38 U.S. and international patents with an additional 64 patents pending.

William Mackenzie - Chief Executive Officer
Mr. Mackenzie posses over 20 years of international experience in Sales, Engineering and Operations and has served in executive management roles in companies ranging from innovative startups to Fortune 500 companies.

Prior to joining Arasor, Mr. Mackenzie served as COO of Novalux Inc., which was acquired by Arasor. Previous to Novalux, Mr. Mackenzie was CEO of Oxford Semiconductor, a world leader in high performance interconnectivity solutions. Prior to this, Mr. Mackenzie was Vice President of Operations and Manufacturing for Centillium Communications. At Centillium, Mr. Mackenzie was instrumental in creating one of the fastest growing semiconductor companies, which went public in 2001, a mere 4 years after the inception of the company. Prior to Centillium, Mr. Mackenzie served as a Senior Director with LSI Logic Corporation and ran the operations and customer functions of LSI Logic Corporation Canada, helping the rapid and profitable revenue ramp from $10M to $175M. Mr. Mackenzie started his career in engineering roles at Motorola Semiconductors in the UK.

Mr. Mackenzie holds a degree in Applied Physics with high honors from University of Strathclyde in Scotland.

Dr Charles Mao - General Manager of Optical Networking
Dr. Mao holds more than 20 years experience in optical networking, communications and signal processing. Prior to joining Arasor, Dr. Mao was a core member of the executive management team at Avanex Corporation and headed global sales and marketing for the company. While at Avanex, Dr. Mao contributed in generating over $100 million in sales. Prior to joining Avanex Corporation, Dr. Mao was a senior engineer with MCI Telecommunications Corporation where he was responsible for specifications and vendor relations on optical amplifiers, DWDM transmitters and regenerators. Dr Mao also held engineering positions at C-Cor Incorporated and AT&T Bell Laboratories.

Dr Mao holds a PhD in electrical engineering from Polytechnic University New York. Dr Mao also graduated from Wuhan Research Institute with a M.S.EE and from Nanjing University with a B.S.EE. Dr Mao holds 14 US patents with an additional 20 pending.

Michael Hong - General Manager of Wireless Solutions
Mr. Hong brings over 25 years of experience in marketing, sales, business development and operations for wireless solution products.

Prior to joining Arasor, Mr. Hong served as vice president of operation and business development for Infineon Technologies, the world largest wireless semiconductor company. Prior to Infineon Technologies, Mr. Hong was COO for Morphics (now part of Infineon), a fables semiconductor that developed 3G baseband processors. Prior to Morphics, Mr. Hong served as vice president of operations for ZSP Corporation (now part of LSI Logic), a fabless semiconductor start-up that developed super scalar digital signal processing (DSP) architectures. Mr. Hong has also held key technical and management positions at OPTi, PMC-Sierra and Zycad and served as a device physicist for VLSI technology, Western Digital, Fairchild and Exar.

Mr. Hong holds Bachelor's and Master's degrees in electrical engineering from San Jose State University.

Jessy ChaoSenior Vice President, Global Finance
Mr. Chao is responsible for financial management and strategic business development activities at Arasor.

Mr. Chao has over 10 years of financial management experience in the Telecommunications industry. Prior to joining to Arasor, Mr. Chao was the Chief Financial Officer of Avanex Corporation and guided the company through a successful IPO on the NASDAQ Stock Exchange. While at Avanex, Mr. Chao led the company's business development, global accounting and finance departments. Earlier in his career, Mr. Chao was head of the accounting and finance department at E-TEK Dynamics, which was acquired by JDS Uniphase.

Mr. Chao earned a B.S. degree in accounting from San Jose State University.

Scott Wilkie - Vice President, Investor Relations and Communications
Mr. Wilkie is responsible for global communications covering investor, media and public relations. Mr. Wilkie is also responsible on a regional basis for the business development and operations for the Australian region.

Mr. Wilkie is an experienced investment banker and company director. After completing his law degree at the Queensland University of Technology, Mr. Wilkie worked at Morgan Stanley and UBS in the USA, immersing himself in the tech boom advising on a variety of equity, debt, taxation and derivative strategies. He also served as a Director of the Australian American Chamber of Commerce during this period. At the same time, Mr. Wilkie became an active participant and advisor to the private equity market. Arriving home in Australia in 2001, Mr. Wilkie held a national role with Credit Suisse until co-founding boutique management buyout firm, Aegeus Partners before joining Arasor.

Jean Chen Director of Human Resources
Ms. Chen guides and manages the overall provision of human resources services, policies, and programs for Arasor and sets unified global HR standards for all of Arasor’s offices internationally. Ms. Chen brings to Arasor over 10 years of human resources experience in the Telecommunications and Technology industries. Ms. Chen leads a full range of HR functions and is responsible for systematic implementation of team-building, employee relations, and retention practices. Prior to Arasor, Ms. Chen worked for Avanex and Borland in charge of Staffing. At IBM Almaden Research Center, she was a Senior Communications Specialist.

Ms. Chen holds a MFA degree in Advertising Design from Syracuse University, New York, and a BA from San Francisco State University, California.
